You need five bricklayers in Bodija on Thursday. Here’s how to get them.

Open the post-a-job flow

guild.com.ng/jobs. Tap Post Job. A WhatsApp Flow opens (yes, inside the web dashboard — same form engine, same validation as the WhatsApp-native version). The form asks for: Submit.

What happens when you hit submit

Submitting a job posting triggers two debits, immediately, in a single transaction.
  1. The escrow funding. Total budget — daily rate × duration × headcount — debits from your bank (via your direct-debit mandate) or your wallet. For five bricklayers × three days × ₦4,000, that’s ₦60,000. The money lands in an escrow balance tied to this exact job.
  2. The posting fee. A small ₦500 fee debits on top, going to Guild. It filters spam postings and funds the matching-model compute that runs the moment your job goes live.
Total debit at submit: budget + ₦500. If either step fails (insufficient funds in your bank, mandate not ready), the job doesn’t go live and you see a clear failure. This is intentional and important: we don’t let a job go live without the money already on our side. A Job Seeker who applies knows the budget exists. Detail at Escrow. There’s no per-application fee, no per-hire fee, no commission on payouts. Budget + ₦500 once at posting, then everything downstream — releases per shift, refunds at the end — handles itself.

What happens the moment you submit

1

The job goes live

Status: ACTIVE. Posted timestamp written. Available in voice (list_open_jobs), WhatsApp (marketplace), and web (/jobs).
2

The matching model fires

Runs over every Job Seeker who could plausibly do this job. Skill, location, language, economic context. NDCG@5 in the high nineties on internal benchmarks. Top candidates are ranked in under a hundred milliseconds.
3

Alerts fire to the top candidates

WhatsApp first (it’s the dominant Job Seeker rail). SMS as fallback for Job Seekers without WhatsApp. The message gives the title, location, pay, duration, and a one-tap apply.
4

Marketplace listing

The job appears in guild.com.ng/jobs and inside Tola’s voice flow for any Job Seeker who calls and asks “wetin work dey?”
The first applications usually land within sixty seconds of posting.

Managing applications

Your dashboard at guild.com.ng/jobs/:jobId shows the job’s applicants in ranked order. The model’s ranking is the default; you can re-sort by application time, distance, or standing tier. For each applicant you see:
  • Standing tier and score. Building / Emerging / Trusted / Established.
  • Completed jobs in the last 90 days.
  • Average review.
  • Distance from the job site (approximate, from their declared city).
  • Languages they speak.
  • Trade categories and skill tags.
  • Last activity (when they were last online on Guild).
Tap Approve to accept their application. The Job Seeker gets a WhatsApp / SMS notification with the start date, foreman contact, and location pin. Tap Reject to decline (politely — they get a generic message and no negative signal). You can approve more than your headcount if you want a buffer. We mark each application’s status as APPROVED. On the start date, the foreman opens the dashboard and marks who actually showed up.

Editing a posted job

You can edit:
  • The description (clarifications, additional details).
  • The end date (extending if you need more days).
You cannot edit:
  • The daily rate. (Changes that would unilaterally cut pay aren’t allowed.)
  • The headcount downward below the count of APPROVED applications.
  • The job category or skill tags.
If you need to change something restricted, cancel the job (refund handling described below) and post a new one.

Cancelling a job

Cancel is available from the dashboard. What it does: Cancelling does mark your account with a small negative signal — frequent cancellations after approvals push your employer standing down (yes, employers have standings too — see below).

Pause and resume

If you need to pause a posting (e.g., you got enough applications and want to stop the alerts but not yet approve), tap Pause. The job moves to PAUSED status. Existing applications stay in your queue; no new alerts fire; the job doesn’t show up in marketplace browsing. Tap Resume to reopen.

Employer standing — short note

Employers have a standing tier too, and Job Seekers can see it on the apply screen. Three signals weigh in:
  • Approval rate (what share of applications you approve).
  • Pay-on-time rate (did you pay approved Job Seekers per shift?).
  • Cancel rate (how often you cancel jobs after approving).
A high-standing employer attracts better candidates because the model surfaces their jobs to Trusted and Established Job Seekers first. A low-standing employer (one who cancels often, pays late) gets a smaller pool. It’s not punitive — it’s the same flywheel that rewards Job Seekers who finish.
Most employers stay invisible to the standing system in their first month. Once you’ve posted 5+ jobs and paid ≥10 unique Job Seekers, your employer tier surfaces on your profile and starts shaping the candidates you see.
